Abstract:Objective To evaluate the lipid accumulation index ( LAP) and visceral fat index ( VAI) in the evalua-tion of metabolic syndrome ( MS) in the elderly .Methods We collected the elderly patients who came to medical examina-tion center of our hospital from September 2015 to June 2016 , and divided the patients into 2 groups:MS group and non-MS group.Compared the difference between LDL-C, TG, HDL-C, TC, BMI, VAI, WC, LAP, TG/HDL-C, and the ability of identification of metabolic syndrome through Receiver operating characteristic curve ( ROC) analysis on MS patients .Results (1)TG, BMI, WC, TG /HDL-C, LAP of MS group was significantly higher than non-MS group( t =11.185, t =10.603, t =11.150, t =10.335, t =11.987, t =12.420,all P <0.01), HDL-C was significantly lower than non-MS group( t =8.693, P <0.01), ROC analysis in the elderly MS patients, regardless of men and women, the ability of LAP to identify MS was better than TG /HDL-C,VAI, WC and BMI.Among them, LAP showed the largest area under the ROC curve in both male[ 0.91 ±0.04 ( 95%CI 0.88-0.96) ] and female[ 0.89 ±0.09( 95%CI 0.83-0.95) ].The optimal cut off values of LAP for males and females were 33.775 and 50.620, respectively, with high sensitivity and specificity for identi-fication of MS .Conclusion Compared with VAI, and even the traditional indicators of WC , BMI, TG /HDL-C, LAP is proved to be the best body fat indicator to identify MS .
