Abstract:Objective To analysis the serum levels of 25( OH) D in multiple sclerosis ( MS) patients and the correla-tion with disability and fatigue. Methods 40 patients of multiple sclerosis were collected as observation group, 30 healthy people were collected as control group.Serum levels of 25(OH)D was detected in all participants by the chemiluminescence immunoassay ( CIA) method;disability status of multiple sclerosis patients was evaluated by EDSS scale;fatigue status was e-valuated by FSS scale. The relevant analysis between serum 25(OH)D levels and EDSS scores, FSS scores of multiple sclero-sis patients was made. Results 92.5% MS patients had the decrease of serum 25 ( OH) D.The concentration of serum 25 (OH)D of observation group (59.32 ±19.21) nmol/L was significantly lower than control group(89.76 ±20.46) nmol/L (P <0.01).The concentration of serum 25(OH)D of SPMS(46.96 ±17.37)nmol/L was significantly lower than RRMS (62.64 ±16.33)nmol/L( P <0.05).The serum 25(OH)D level inversely correlates with FSS scores significantly in multi-ple sclerosis patients ( r =-0.60, P <0.05), but there is no significant correlation with EDSS scores ( r =-0.21, P >0.05).The EDSS scores positively correlates with FSS scores significantly ( r =0.79, P <0.01).Conclusion Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in MS patients.Vitamin Ddeficiency perhaps is one factor which could cause higher level of fatigue in MS patients. There was no apparent association between vitamin D status and disability degree.
