The effects of folic acid therapy for circulating endothelial progenitor cell and carotid arteries elasticity in H type hy-pertensive patients

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of folic acid on circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) and ca-rotid elasticity in patients with H type hypertension .Methods From 2015 Jan to June, a total of 46 H type hypertension pa-tients in Huabei Petroleum Administration Bureau General Hospital Medical Center were enrolled as the object of study , by the random number table, they were divided into observation group and control group , 23 cases in each group.At the same time, 23 cases of hypertensive patients with normal Hcy enrolled as normal group .All the groups were treated with anti -hypertension drugs, and the observation group was treated with folic acid .Plasma levels of Hcy, EPC and carotid elasticity were measured before and after treatment for 3 months.Results Before treatment, the levels of Hcy in the observation group and the control group were significantly higher than those in the Hcy normal group , the circulating EPC levels were significantly lower than those in the Hcy normal group, and the carotid artery elasticity was also significantly lower than that of the Hcy normal group , there were significant difference( P <0.05).After 3 months of folic acid intervention,in observation group, the levels of plas-ma Hcy was significantly lower than that before treatment , circulating EPC content increased significantly , and carotid artery elasticity significantly improved,there were significant difference( P <0.05),while the control group’s index before and after treatment, the differences were not statistically significant ( P >0.05).After treatment,observation group compared with the normal Hcy group showed no statistical significance ( P >0.05), and compared with control group , the differences were sta-tistically significant ( P <0.01).Conclusion Folic acid can reduce the plasma level of Hcy in patients with type H hyper -tension and increase the number of circulating EPC , thereby improving the function of blood vessels .
