Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of combined detection of serum procalcitonin ( PCT) ,white blood cell count (WBC) in the diagnosis of sepsis in children with sepsis .Methods From January 2013 to January 2014, ac-cording to the severity of the disease , 80 children with sepsis were divided into sepsis group and severe sepsis group with 40 cases in each group .A control group of 36 patients with non sepsis patients were selected as the control group .The serum lev-els of PCT, WBC, CRP were detected in 24 h after admission. Results Severe sepsis group, serum PCT and WBC, CRP lev-els were the highest, (2.88 ±1.31) μg/L, (17.0 ±6.6) ×109/L, (124.8 ±15.9) mg/L respectively, which were signifi-cantly higher than those in the other two groups ( F =4.881, F =5.052, F =5.456, P <0.05), and the serum PCT posi-tive rate was 85.0%, which were higher than the group of children with sepsis (57.5%) and the control group (2.7%). The positive rate of PCT was statistically significant different between the 3 groups ( F =7.34, P <0.05).PCT and WBC combined detection in the diagnosis of sepsis's sensitivity , specificity ,accuracy , positive predictive value , negative predictive value,Youden index were 87.5%, 95.0%, 91.3%, 94.6%, 88.4%,0.825, which were significantly higher than those of the separate detecting's 57.5%,80.0%, 68.8%and 74.2%, 65.3%,0.375( P <0.05).Conclusion The PCT has high application value in the diagnosis of sepsis , and the diagnostic accuracy is significantly improved with the combination of WBC count.
