The concurrent efficacy of low dose TP term radiotherapy and chemotherapy for esophageal cancer

Abstract：Objective To observe the short term efficacy and safety of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy com-bined with small dose of TP ( docetaxel +cisplatin) chemotherapy for patients with esophageal cancer.Methods 56 cases of esophageal cancer patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group with 28 cases in each group.Three dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with low-dose TP chemotherapy were performed in the observation group, and the control group was treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy.The clinical symptom score, the short-term effica-cy, the incidence of adverse reactions and the quality of life score were compared between the 2 groups before and after treat-ment.Results After treatment, the patients in both of the two groups’ hoarseness, eating obstruction and drinking cough score were significantly lower than those before treatment ( P <0.05), and the observation group’s hoarseness was signifi-cantly lower than that of control group ( P <0.05).The observation group’ s short term improvement rate was 89.28%, which was higher than 42.86%in the control group ( P <0.05).Observation group patients’ radiation-induced esophageal inflammation, nausea and vomiting, bone marrow inhibited total incidence rate were 60.72% and 25.00% and 64.29% re-spectively, the control group patients were 53.57%, 28.57%, 60.71%respectively, the difference between the 2 groups did not show statistically significant ( P <0.05) .Karnofsky score of the two groups after treatment was significantly higher than that of before treatment (75.64 ±2.36) points vs.(82.09 ±3.39) points, (74.60 ±2.63) points vs.(78.27 ±3.01) points, respectively, P <0.05) and after treatment observation group’s Karnofsky score was significantly higher than that of the control group ( P <0.05).Conclusion Low dose of docetaxel and cisplatin chemotherapy combined with three-dimen-sional conformal radiotherapy for patients with esophageal cancer is safe and effective.
