Therapeutic effect of Shuganjieyu capsules on mild cognitive impairment associated with depression in elderly patients

Abstract：Objective To observe the effectiveness of Shuganjieyu capsules in treating mild cognitive impairment as-sociated with depression in elderly patients.Methods One hundred and twenty patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group with 60 patients in each group.Patients in treatment group were undertaken Shuganjieyu capsules. Patients in control group were undertaken fluoxetine.Patients’ major symptoms, score differences of the Hamilton Scale for Depression ( HAMD) and the Mini Mental State Examination ( MMSE) and the effectiveness were compared before and after treatment.Results After treatment, the symptoms in treatment group are significantly relieved ( P <0.05);while the con-trol group only insomnia, dreaminess, palpitation, fatigue were improved ( P <0.05);and the symptoms of vertigo, tinni-tus, forgetfulness in treatment group were improved than the those in the control group ( P <0.05);HAMD total score were decreased after treatment in both groups ( P <0.05), among which the improvement of anxiety/physical symptoms, cognitive impairment and sleeping disorder are most obviously ( P <0.05), and cognitive impairment’s improvement were better than control group ( P <0.05); MMSE total score were improved after treatment in the treatment group ( P <0.05), among which the improvements in attention, computing ability, immediate recall and delayed recall are most obviously ( P <0.05) . The total effectiveness of treatment group was 78.33%, which is better than that of control group’ s 60.00% (χ2 =4.728, P <0.05).The adverse effect in the treatment group was 13.33%,which was lower than the control group’s 35.00%(χ2 =7.685, P <0.05).Conclusion It demonstrated thtat the Shuganjieyu capsules could be used as a long-term treatment medi-cine for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment associated with depression.
