Effect of stereotactic surgery on sleep quality of refractory depression

Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes of stereotactic operation in treating refractory symptoms and sleep quality of patients with depression .Methods Stereotactic operation for the treatment of depression were performed in 61 ca-ses, Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score were tested on these patients before operation and 3 months after operation , according to the clinical efficacy evaluation criteria and HAMD-17 score reduc-tion rate to evaluate the curative effect , PSQI score was used to evaluate the situation , improvement of the quality of sleep .Re-sults Clinical evaluation results:after 3 months, 5 patients were clinical recovered (8.19%), significantly improved in 23 cases (37.70%), improved in 25 cases (40.98%), and invalid in 8 cases (13.13%), the total efficiency were 86.87%. HAMD-17 reduction rate of curative effect evaluation results:in the 3 months after operation, 7 cases were cured (11.48%), 22 cases with significant progress (36.07%), progress in 24 cases (39.34%), invalid in 8 cases (13.11%), the total effi-ciency was 86 .89%.HAMD-17 score reveal that all the factors and total score decreased significantly compared with the be -fore operation ( P <0.01).The PSQI score of each factor and total score were significantly lower than that before operation (P <0.01).Conclusion Stereotactic surgery in the treatment of refractory depression can effectively improve the symptoms of depression, and comprehensively improve the quality of sleep .
