Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between T cell proliferation, serum tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α abnormalities and clinical course of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in Lewis rats. Methods The rats of EAE were examined for the development of neurological signs of disease, T cell proliferation responses and TNF-α concentrations. Results There was an active T cell proliferation, and a marked TNF-α increase which paralleled with clinical onset in EAE. Conclusion Our studies suggest that T cell proliferation and increasing of TNF-α result in blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown and significant inflammatory cell recruitment which leads to EAE.
