Abstract:Objective This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Aruse purgation therapy,a type of Tibetan medicine combined with pumpkin seeds and areca nuts in the treatment of 48 patients with intestinal taeniasis. Methods A self-controlled before-and-after study design was adopted,in which 48 patients with intestinal taeniasis received the Tibetan medical anthelmintic therapy to observe its clinical efficacy and safety. Results After treatment, the patients'symptoms such as abdominal distension, anorexia, discovery of white proglottides in under-wear/bedding/feces and anal itching significantly improved compared to those before treatment, with statistically significant differences(P<0.001).Paired T-test analysis on renal function, liver function and CBC(complete blood count)before and after treatment showed no significant differences(P>0.05).Conclusion Tibetan medicine has an early understanding of intestinal taeniasis and a rich theoretical foundation.Aruse purgation therapy demonstrates significant efficacy in intestinal taeniasis treatment and shows no side effects on patients'renal function, liver func-tion or CBC,revealing a high level of safety with no significant side effects.
