Study on the Growth and Development of Ashidan Yaks in Lhasa,Xizang

Abstract：To enhance the yak production performance in Xizang,120 Ashidan yak breeding cattle(including 20 bulls and 100 cows)were introduced from Qinghai Yak Breeding and Promotion Service Center,and were reared at Gesangtang Yak Breeding Farm in Linzhou,Lhasa for adaptability observation.Observation on the growth and de-velopment of Ashidan yaks reared in Lhasa,Xizang revealed that after 6 months of introduction(at 2.5 years old),the average weight of bulls reached 196.86±9.47 kg,while cows averaged 164.16±2.45 kg.After 18 months of in-troduction(at 3.5 years old),the average weight of bulls reached 288.39±4.02 kg,while cows averaged 216.35±2.01 kg.A comparative study on the body size and body weight between introduced Ashidan yaks and those in their original habitats revealed excellent adaptability of Ashidan yaks in Lhasa,Xizang,indicating that Ashidan yaks are suitable for introduction into Lhasa,Xizang.
