Abstract:Objective To investigate the in vitro antibacterial activities of four Tibetan medicinal plants from the Ra-nunculaceae family(Delphinium brunonianum Royle,Delphinium trichophorum Franch,Delphinium caeruleum Jac-quem.ex Cambess and Clematis florida Thunb)against six pathogens. Methods The 85%ethanol extracts of four Tibetan medicinal plants from the Ranunculaceae familywere subjected to sequential extraction with ethyl acetate,n-butanol,petroleum ether and water, followed by concentration and freeze-drying to obtain four polar components. The in vitro antibacterial activities of each component were evaulated against Staphylococcus aureus,Enterococcus faecalis,Sarcina lutea,Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae using the microdilu-tion method. Results The in vitro antibacterial results showed that the petroleum ether part of Delphinium caerule-um Jacquem.ex Cambess,Delphinium brunonianum Royle and Clematis florida Thunb exhibited the best inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, with average minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)value of 3.125 mg/mL.The ethyl acetate and petroleum ether parts of Delphinium caeruleum Jacquem.ex Cambess and,the n-butanol part of Clematis florida Thunb showed the best inhibitory effect on Enterococcus faecalis, with average MIC value of 3.125 mg/mL.The ethyl acetate and petroleum ether parts of Delphinium caeruleum Jacquem.ex Cambess,petro-leum ether parts of Delphinium brunonianum Royle and Clematis florida Thunb showed the best inhibitory effect on Sarcina lutea, with average MIC value of 3.125 mg/mL.The ethyl acetate and n-butanol parts of Clematis florida Thunb showed the best inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, with average MIC value of 6.25 mg/mL Conclusion The four selected Tibetan medicinal plants demonstrated better inhibitory activities against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria, among which,Delphinium caeruleum Jacquem.ex Cambess exhibited the best antibacteri-al effect, suggesting its potential for further research.
