Abstract:Objective To investigate the incidence of anemia and its associated factors in hemodialysis patients in the high-altitude area of Lhasa,Xizang(3600mabove sea level). Methods Between January,2021 and June,2021,a total of 169 patients(121 males and 48 females)undergoing maintenance hemodialysis at Nephrology Department of People's Hospitalof Xizang Autonomous Region were included in a retrospective analysis.Additionally,a control group of 100 non-anemic individuals from the same altitude area was included. Results In hemodialysis patients with anemia, the levels of hemoglobin(Hb),red blood cells(RBC),hematocrit(HCT),transferrin saturation(TSAT),folic acid, and vitamin B12 were significantly lower than the control group. In contrast, their serum ferritin(SF)was significantly higher. The overall incidence of anemia was found to be 58.0%among the 169 hemodialysis patients, and it increased significantly with age.Chronic glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, renal tuberculosis and poly-cystic kidney disease were the primary causes of anemia in hemodialysis patients,in an descending order of inci-dence.Conclusion The incidence of anemia remains high in hemodialysis patients in high-altitude areas, and the ma-jor factors that induce renal anemia are primary renal disease and age.
