Abstract:In this study,6 maize varieties from southeast Xizang were used as experimental materials to investigate the changes in chromosome behavior during somatic mitosis under the special habitat conditions of southeast Xi-zang in order to provide theoretical reference for studies on maize mitosis under extreme environmental stress. The results showed as follows:(1)In southeast Xizang, the mitotic index of local varieties was significantly higher than that of the control, but the difference of mitotic index among different local varieties did not reach a significant level.(2)All the local varieties showed different degrees of mitotic chromosome damage, which was manifested as 7 types:chromosome bridges, chromosome cohesion, chromosome fragments, multipolar chromosome division, chromosome rings, chromosome condensation and chromosome doubling, among which chromosome fragmentation was the most common type of aberration observed in the local maize varieties of southeast Xizang.(3)In this study, nuclear aberra-tion was manifested as nuclear rupture and nuclear deformation, and nuclear rupture accounted for a higher propor-tion.In addition, abnormal nuclear phenomena occurred more frequently, while micronucleus and binucleate micro-nucleus phenomena occurred less frequently.
