Summary of best evidence for peristomal skin management in neonates undergoing enterostomy

Abstract:Objective:To summarize the best evidence for peristomal skin management in neonates undergoing enterostomy,and to provide evidence-based support for standardizing peristomal skin care practices.Methods:Literature related to peristomal skin management in neonates undergoing enterostomy was retrieved systematically from domestic and international databases,guideline websites,and relevant academic society websites,including clinical decision-makings,guidelines,expert consensuses,evidence summaries,systematic reviews,and Meta-analyses and RCTs.The searched period was from January 31,2010 to January 31,2025.Two researchers who had received systematic evidence-based training independently performed literature screening,quality assessment,and evidence extraction and summarization.Results:A total of 13 articles were included,comprising 1 clinical decision-making article,4 guidelines,4 expert consensuses,2 evidence summaries,1 systematic review,and 1 RCT.A total of 25 pieces of best evidence were summarized across 5 aspects:stoma location,skin assessment,skin care,ostomy products,and nutritional support.Conclusions:Current evidence shows that the best evidence summarized in this study for peristomal skin management in neonates undergoing enterostomy is scientific,professional,and practical,which can provide evidence-based support for nurses to implement scientific management for peristomal skin.
