Abstract:Objective: To conduct a scoping review of studies on the application of electronic monitoring devices in improving treatment adherence and clinical outcomes in older patients with chronic diseases, providing references for home monitoring and rehabilitation practices. Methods: Based on the methodological framework of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) scoping review guidelines, literature was searched from domestic and international databases, with a time frame from January 1, 2015, to January 4, 2025. The included literature was summarized and analyzed. Results: A total of 23 articles were included, including 14 English-language articles and 9 Chinese-language articles. Electronic monitoring devices mainly include wearable digital trackers related to digital medicine, smartphone digital applications, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and telemedicine systems. Chronic diseases include hypertension, diabetes, cancer, coronary heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and stroke. Conclusion: The application of electronic monitoring devices in older patients with chronic diseases helps improve treatment adherence and clinical outcomes. Future research should standardize study designs, integrate multiple elements to build treatment adherence programs using electronic monitoring devices, and promote the development and application of such devices.
