Prevention and management of medical adhesive-related skin injuries in adult ICU patients:a best evidence summary

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve,evaluate,and integrate the best evidence for the prevention and management of medical adhesive-related skin injuries(MARSI)in adult intensive care unit(ICU)patients.Methods:Following the"6S"evidence model,a systematic search was conducted in domestic and international databases,relevant guideline websites,and professional society websites for guidelines,expert consensus,evidence summaries,and systematic reviews on the prevention and management of MARSI in adult ICU patients.The search period was from database inception to December 31,2024.Results:A total of 16 articles were included,comprising 3 guidelines,3 evidence summaries,7 expert consensus reports,and 3 systematic reviews.A total of 23 pieces of evidence were summarized across 7 aspects:skin assessment,skin care,selection of supplies,handling techniques,maintenance,dressing change timing,and education and training for ICU patients.Conclusions:The best evidence summarized in this study for the prevention and management of MARSI in adult ICU patients has certain scientific validity and practicality.It is recommended that medical staff should select the best evidence rationally based on the actual situation of the department and patients.It aimed to reduce the incidence of MARSI and improve the quality of nursing care.
