Abstract:Objective: To explore the current status of health literacy-sensitive communication from the perspective of inpatients and analyze its influencing factors. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 289 inpatients from three tertiary general hospitals in Tianjin from August to December 2023. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, a health literacy-sensitive communication questionnaire, a patient medical experience questionnaire, and a brief health literacy screening questionnaire. Univariate analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were conducted to investigate the level of health literacy-sensitive communication by medical staff from the perspective of inpatients and its influencing factors. Results: The score of health literacy-sensitive communication from the perspective of 289 inpatients was (15.24±7.97), which was at a low level. Univariate analysis showed that the patient's place of residence and hospitalization duration were influencing factors of health literacy-sensitive communication (P<0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the patient's health literacy and medical experience were influencing factors of health literacy-sensitive communication (P<0.05). Conclusion: The level of health literacy-sensitive communication among medical staff in tertiary general hospitals needs further improvement. Attention should be paid to patients from rural areas, those with longer hospitalization periods, lower health literacy, and poor medical experiences. Targeted improvement measures should be adopted to enhance the health literacy-sensitive communication level of medical staff, thereby improving the quality of hospital services.
