Attitudes and experiences of the elderly receiving socially assistive robots:a Meta-integration

Abstract:Objective:To systematically review the qualitative research on the attitudes and experience of the elderly receiving socially assistive robots.Methods:A comprehensive search was conducted.Databases included PubMed,EMbase,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,CNKI,WanFang Data,VIP,and CBM.The search covered all records from database inception to December 2024.All relevant qualitative studies on older adults'experiences with these robots were considered.The findings were synthesized using a pooled integration approach.Results:A total of 10 articles were included.From these,44 findings were extracted.These were grouped into 12 categories.Finally,4 synthesized findings were developed:older adults'attitudes toward socially assistive robots;the positive impact of using socially assistive robots for older adults;the barriers older adults face when using socially assistive robots;the improvement needs of socially assistive robots for older adults.Conclusion:Digital health literacy among older adults should be enhanced.The personalized design and functionality of socially assistive robots need further optimization.Privacy protection must be strengthened.These steps will help integrate socially assistive robots more effectively into the social lives of older adults.
