Summary of the best evidence for oral dietary management in hospitalized patients with non-severe acute pancreatitis

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve,evaluate,and summarize the best evidence regarding oral dietary management for hospitalized patients with non-severe acute pancreatitis,so as to provide a basis for clinical practice.Methods:We searched evidence from BMJ Best Practice,UpToDate,PubMed,Cochrane Library,EMbase,CINAHL,CNKI,WanFang Data,GIN,NICE,American Gastroenterological Association,and Yimaitong,regarding oral dietary management for hospitalized patients with acute pancreatitis.Literature were searched,including clinical decision-making,guidelines,clinical practice,evidence summaries,expert consensus and so on.The retrieval time limit was from January 1,2018,to January 31,2024.Following quality assessment by multiple researchers trained in evidence-based methodology,evidence was extracted,summarized,and evaluated.Results:A total of 22 articles were included,comprising 4 clinical decisions,16 guidelines,and 2 original research studies.A total of 27 pieces of evidence were summarized from 8 aspects including the purpose and benefits of oral intake,patient assessment,contraindications to oral feeding,timing for refeeding,types of open diet,preventive and management measures,precautions,and discharge guidance.Conclusion:The best evidence of oral dietary management for hospitalized patients with non-severe acute pancreatitis summarized in this study is more comprehensive and scientific.Based on interdisciplinary collaboration,experienced healthcare professionals should selectively apply the evidence according to clinical situation to achieve the goals of reducing hospital costs and shortening length of stay.
