Abstract:Objective: To understand the real experience of discharge preparation for patients with diabetic foot ulcers, and to provide references for developing targeted strategies. Methods: A purposeful sampling method was used to select 15 inpatients with diabetic foot ulcers from a tertiary A hospital in Guizhou Province between October 2024 and January 2025. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using phenomenological research methods. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi's 7-step method to extract themes. Results: Four main themes and ten sub-themes were identified: uncertainty in discharge preparation (anxious and worried emotions; optimistic and positive attitudes), inadequate knowledge acquisition (ignoring the importance of blood glucose control; lack of knowledge about daily foot care and recurrence), insufficient coping ability (difficulty in managing health behaviors; challenges in life and work; inadequate self-care ability for foot ulcers), and limited economic pressure and support (heavy economic burden; limited family care quality; insufficient support from grassroots medical institutions). Conclusion: Medical staff should pay attention to the discharge preparation process of patients with diabetic foot ulcers, accurately identify their discharge preparation status, actively carry out personalized health education, continuously promote follow-up nursing services, and provide multi-party high-quality resource support to improve patients' discharge preparation level.
