Abstract:Objective:To systematically evaluate the effect of intermittent catheterization(IC)on bladder function recovery and urinary tract infection(UTI)incidence in patients with post-stroke neurogenic bladder(PSNB),and to provide evidence-based support for the selection of catheterization methods in clinical practice. Methods:A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed,Web of Science,EMbase,Cochrane Library,CNKI,WanFang Data,CBM and VIP.The retrieval time was from the inception to February 14,2025.Two researchers independently performed literature screening, quality assessment, and data extraction.Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software.Outcome measures included maximum bladder capacity,post-void residual volume, bladder balance rate, and incidence of urinary tract infection. Results:A total of 11 articles involving 754 PSNB patients were included.Meta-analysis results showed that compared with indwelling catheterization,IC had a positive effect on improving maximum bladder capacity,post-void residual volume, and bladder balance rate, and significantly reduced the incidence of urinary tract infections. Conclusion:Current evidence shows that IC could effectively promote bladder function recovery and reduce the risk of urinary tract infections in PSNB patients, demonstrating good safety and clinical value.IC is recommended as a preferred catheterization strategy for PSNB patients in clinical practice.
