Development and reliability and validity testing of the knowledge,attitude and practice scale for volume management in patients with chronic heart failure

Abstract：Objective: To develop a knowledge-attitude-behavior scale for volume management in patients with chronic heart failure and to test its reliability and validity, providing a comprehensive assessment tool for clinical medical staff to understand the level of volume management in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: Based on the knowledge-attitude-behavior theory, the scale items were determined through literature review and semi-structured interviews. After two rounds of Delphi expert consultation, the initial scale was formed. A convenience sampling method was used to conduct reliability and validity testing of the scale by surveying 432 patients with chronic heart failure. Results: The constructed scale includes three dimensions and 34 items. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the total scale was 0.856, and the Cronbach's α coefficients of each dimension were 0.738, 0.819, and 0.793, respectively. The content validity index at the scale level (S-CVI) was 0.97, and the content validity index at the item level (I-CVI) ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit index met the fitting criteria. Conclusion: The knowledge-attitude-behavior scale for volume management in patients with chronic heart failure has good reliability and validity, and can be used as an assessment tool to understand the knowledge, attitude, and behavior levels of patients with chronic heart failure regarding volume management.
