Influence of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing on wound healing and complications after perianal abscess surgery:a Meta-analysis

Abstract：Objective:To systematically evaluate the effects of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing on wound healing and the incidence of complications after perianal abscess surgery,and to provide evidence-based medical basis for clinical practice.Methods:Randomized controlled trials related to the treatment of postoperative wounds of perianal abscess with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing were retrieved from Chinese and English databases such as CNKI,WanFang Data,VIP,CBM,PubMed,Web of Science,and Cochrane Library.The retrieval period was from the establishment of the database to April 1,2025.The Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included literature.RevMan 5.4 software was used for Meta-analysis.Results:A total of 11 randomized controlled trials were included,involving 1 145 patients.The results of the Meta-analysis showed that compared with conventional care,traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing could significantly increase the total effective rate of treatment(RR=1.14,95%CI 1.10-1.18,P<0.000 01),shorten the wound healing time(MD=-3.63,95%CI-4.01--3.25,P<0.000 01),reduced the incidence of postoperative complications(RR=0.24,95%CI 0.15-0.38,P<0.000 01),and significantly improved postoperative pain in patients(MD=-0.74,95%CI-1.22--0.26,P=0.003).Conclusion:Traditional Chinese medicine fumigation and washing could increase the total effective rate of wound treatment after perianal abscess surgery,shorten the wound healing time,reduce the incidence of postoperative complications,and relieve postoperative pain.
