Prevention and management of workplace violence among clinical nurses:a summary of best evidence

Abstract:Objective:To systematically summarize the evidence on the prevention and management of workplace violence(WPV)among clinical nurses and to provide theoretical guidance for WPV prevention and management in clinical practice.Methods:Literature including decision-making,guidelines,expert consensus,evidence summaries,recommended practices,systematic reviews,and Meta-analyses related to the prevention and management of WPV among clinical nurses was retrieved from domestic and international guideline websites,professional association websites,and databases.The search period was from the inception of each database to September 1,2024.After independent quality assessment by two researchers,the evidence was extracted and summarized by topic.Results:A total of 15 articles were included,including 1 clinical decision-making,4 guidelines,1 evidence summary,1 recommended practice,6 systematic reviews,and 2 Meta-analyses.Twenty-seven best evidence items were summarized across four areas:pre-emptive prevention,in-process response,post-processing,and organizational support.Conclusions:The summaries best evidence of WPV prevention and management among clinical nurses can provide evidence-based support for early prevention and management of violent behavior in hospitals.
