Abstract:Objective: To explore the latent classes of anticipatory grief in family caregivers of patients with high-grade glioma (HGG) and their characteristic differences, and to analyze related influencing factors. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study, using convenience sampling to select HGG patients and their family caregivers treated at a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, from September 2023 to July 2024. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the translated version of the caregiver's anticipatory grief scale, and the simplified coping style scale. Latent profile analysis was used to explore the latent classes of anticipatory grief in family caregivers of HGG patients, and logistic regression analysis was used to investigate related influencing factors. Results: A total of 160 HGG patients and their family caregivers were included. The anticipatory grief of family caregivers could be divided into two categories, named the emotionally stable group (85 people, 53.1%) and the loss-related grief group (75 people, 46.9%). Logistic regression analysis showed that the educational level of HGG patients' family caregivers and their coping styles were significant factors affecting their latent classes of anticipatory grief (P < 0.05). Conclusion: There are clear classification characteristics of anticipatory grief in family caregivers of HGG patients. It is recommended that medical staff provide personalized psychological interventions based on the characteristics of caregivers with different educational levels, and encourage caregivers to use positive coping strategies to deal with the treatment and care of the disease, thereby alleviating their anticipatory grief and improving the quality of patient care.
