Abstract:Objective: To investigate the current situation of spousal support coping among rural elderly couples and analyze its influencing factors, providing a basis for improving the level of spousal support coping among rural elderly couples and formulating relevant measures. Methods: From July to October 2023, a convenience sampling method was used to select rural elderly people in Hunan Province as research subjects. A general information questionnaire, the Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI), the Spouse-Initiated Relationship Support Scale (SIRRS), and the Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-13) were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 448 rural elderly individuals. Results: The DCI score of rural elderly people was (121.17±18.35) points, the SIRRS score was (81.89±15.24) points, and the SOC-13 score was (59.70±8.96) points. Spousal relationship support and sense of coherence were positively correlated with spousal support coping (r values were 0.803 and 0.189, respectively, both P<0.01). Personal monthly income, presence of chronic disease, ethnicity, living conditions, and spousal relationship support were influencing factors of spousal support coping among rural elderly people. Conclusion: The level of spousal support coping among rural elderly people in Hunan Province is moderate and needs further improvement. Society at large should pay more attention to rural elderly people, starting from strengthening spousal relationship support to enhance the level of spousal support coping among rural elderly people.
