Abstract:Objective: To conduct a scoping review of studies on speech function rehabilitation in patients with head and neck cancer both domestically and internationally. Methods: A computerized systematic search was conducted in PubMed, EMbase, CINAHL, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and China Biomedical Literature Database. The search period ranged from the establishment of the databases to January 7, 2024. The included literature was analyzed and discussed. Results: A total of 21 articles were included, consisting of 10 randomized controlled trials and 11 quasi-experimental studies. Speech rehabilitation measures for patients with head and neck cancer are divided into two categories based on tumor location: for oral cavity tumors, exercises include lip movement, tongue movement, mandibular and mouth-opening training, and articulation training; for pharyngeal tumors, exercises include breathing training, laryngeal muscle training, resonance training, and articulation training. Outcome indicators include speech intelligibility, voice quality, communication ability, and quality of life. Conclusion: Speech rehabilitation can effectively improve voice disorders in patients with head and neck cancer. Future research should integrate telemedicine models and adopt multidisciplinary collaboration methods to conduct more intervention studies, continue post-discharge rehabilitation care for patients with head and neck cancer, and enhance their voice quality.
