Abstract:Objective: To understand the status of physical activity participation among elderly patients with common chronic diseases in Taiyuan City, and to provide valuable references for scientific exercise guidance and chronic disease prevention for the elderly. Methods: A face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted on 1,563 elderly people who visited three community health service centers in urban areas of Taiyuan City. Multifactorial logistic regression analysis was used to explore the key factors affecting physical activity participation among patients with chronic diseases. Results: Among the 1,563 community-dwelling elderly people, 1,322 (84.6%) had chronic diseases. Among them, the physical activity participation rate was 74.4% (984/1,322), with walking being the main form of physical activity (87.4%). 72.8% of the patients exercised for at least 30 minutes daily, 72.6% exercised for at least 150 minutes per week, and 59.3% had been exercising for more than 5 years. Logistic regression analysis showed that elderly age, female gender, occupation other than public officials, overweight and obesity, comorbidities of chronic diseases, and frequent alcohol consumption were associated with lower rates of physical activity participation. Conclusion: Most elderly patients with chronic diseases have long-term exercise habits, but their forms of physical activity are relatively limited, mainly consisting of walking. Age, gender, body mass index, comorbidities, occupation, and alcohol consumption are important factors influencing physical activity participation in the chronic disease population.
