Abstract:Objective: To investigate the current status of technical anxiety and self-management behavior in elderly patients with diabetes and analyze their correlation, providing a reference for reducing technical anxiety and improving self-management ability. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 258 elderly diabetic patients who visited a tertiary A hospital in Wuhan from April to July 2024. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, a technical anxiety scale, and the Chinese version of the self-management behavior scale for elderly diabetic patients. Results: The total score for self-management behavior in elderly diabetic patients was (20.53±4.99) points, and the total score for technical anxiety was (33.36±11.72) points, with scores for technical tension, technical fear, and privacy security concerns being (14.75±5.52), (11.30±4.23), and (7.30±3.01) points, respectively. Technical anxiety was negatively correlated with self-management behavior (P<0.01). Multivariate analysis showed that living arrangements, willingness to use digital health technology, and technical anxiety were factors influencing self-management behavior. Age, educational level, place of residence, willingness to use digital health technology, and self-management behavior were factors influencing technical anxiety in elderly diabetic patients. Conclusion: The self-management ability of elderly diabetic patients is at a medium to slightly high level, and technical anxiety is at a moderate level. Technical anxiety can negatively predict patients' self-management ability, suggesting that medical staff can improve self-management ability by reducing patients' technical anxiety.
