Communication management of artificial airway patients in intensive care units:a summary of evidence

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve,evaluate,and summarize the best evidence on communication management of artificial airway patients in adult intensive care units(ICUs).Methods:Related evidence on communication management of artificial airway patients was systematically retrieved from databases and guideline websites in China and abroad.The search period was from May 1,2014 to April 30,2024.Two researchers independently evaluated the quality of the literature and extracted evidence.Results:A total of 16 articles were included,including 3 clinical decision-making articles,2 guidelines,2 expert consensus articles,1 evidence summary,and 8 systematic reviews.A total of 25 pieces of best evidence were summarized from 5 aspects:including factors affecting communication,selection and nursing of communication aids,implementation of communication,communication evaluation and recording,and education and training.Conclusions:The summarized best evidence on communication management of artificial airway patients in the ICU could provide a basis for ICU medical staff to standardize the implementation of communication management measures for artificial airway patients.
