Abstract:Objective: To explore the influencing factors of exercise behavior in adolescents with depression, and to provide a basis for promoting the implementation of exercise in adolescents with depression and formulating exercise intervention measures. Methods: A purposeful sampling method was used to select 12 adolescents with depression admitted to the psychiatric department of a hospital in Nanjing from October to December 2023 as interview subjects. Based on the MOA model (motivation, opportunity, and ability), an interview outline was developed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The data were analyzed and summarized using Colaizzi's 7-step method to extract themes. Results: The influencing factors of exercise behavior in adolescents with depression were refined into three main themes and eight sub-themes, namely: motivation for exercise behavior (emotional experience, appearance and health goals, social support and needs), opportunity and conditions for exercise (external encouragement, academic conflicts, exercise facilities), and ability for exercise (level of exercise skills, self-evaluation). Conclusion: Medical staff should pay attention to the exercise preferences of adolescents with depression, formulate appropriate exercise prescriptions, establish a multidimensional exercise support system, and stimulate and maintain the enthusiasm of adolescents with depression to engage in and carry out exercise, thereby effectively promoting their recovery process.
