Visual analysis of research hotspots and frontiers on polypharmacy in patients with comorbidity of chronic disease

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the current situation, hotspots, and trends of research on polypharmacy in patients with chronic disease comorbidity. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database up to September 20, 2024, for literature related to polypharmacy in patients with chronic disease comorbidity. CiteSpace 6.3.R1 software was used to perform a visualization analysis of the publication time, authors, countries, institutions, and keywords of the literature. Results: A total of 1,865 papers were included. The overall number of publications showed a steadily increasing trend year by year, with the United States having the highest number of publications. The main research hotspots focused on epidemiological studies, polypharmacy management, and patient prognosis. Future research trends mainly involve the development of shared decision-making strategies for polypharmacy in patients with chronic disease comorbidity. Conclusion: The issue of polypharmacy in patients with chronic disease comorbidity is gradually receiving attention. In the future, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation and exchange with foreign countries in the field of research on polypharmacy for patients with chronic disease comorbidity to improve the research level in this area in China.
