Status quo and influencing factors of physical activities among community-dwelling elderly people from the perspective of social ecological theory

Abstract:Objective:Using the social ecology theory as a framework,this research explored the physical activity status of community elderly and examined its influencing factors.Methods:From March to July 2024,470 elderly people from 3 community health service centers in Baoding,Hebei Province were selected.A cross-sectional survey was conducted with general information questionnaire,international physical activity scale,activity self-efficacy tool,exercise disorder and benefit questionnaire,self-regulation scale,social support scale and community environment questionnaire.Results:Community elderly people with insufficient physical activity accounted for 27.23%,and the total metabolic equivalent was 2 604.00(1 626.00 and 3 465.00)MET-min/weeks.Multiple linear regression indicated that the physical excercise of the aged in the community was affected by many factors(P<0.05).The individual level included self-assessment of health status,self-efficacy,self-regulation,perception of exercise benefits;interpersonal relationship level involved social support and living style;community environment level included community safety and organizational activities.Conclusions:The physical activity of community-dwelling elderly people remains at an intermediate level.The community and medical staff can formulate targeted intervention measures according to the influencing factors of physical activity to enhance the degree of physical activity for the aged within the community.
