Summary of the best evidence for kangaroo mother care in preterm and low birth weight infants

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve,evaluate and summarize the evidence of kangaroo mother care for preterm and low birth weight infants to provide references for clinical practice.Methods:Evidence on kangaroo mother care for preterm and low birth weight infants was systematically searched from domestic and international databases and related websites according to the"6S"evidence principle,including clinical decisions,guidelines,best practices,evidence summaries,expert consensus,and systematic reviews.The search period was from the establishment of the databases to July 27,2024.Totally 2 researchers independently evaluated the quality of the literature,extracted and integrated evidence.Results:Totally 18 articles were included,including 6 guidelines,2 expert consensus,1 evidence summary,and 9 systematic reviews.Totally 29 pieces of evidence were summarized in 6 areas:staff composition and preparation,environmental support,implementation content,nutrition and feeding,discharge and follow-up management,and outcome evaluation.Conclusions:This study summarizes the best evidence for implementing kangaroo mother care in preterm and low birth weight infants and provides an evidence-based basis for clinical practice.It is recommended that targeted evidence application be undertaken by clinical staff after adequate assessment of the clinical context.
