Abstract:Objective: To explore the experience of intern nurses in dealing with patient death, providing references for clinical nursing education and death education. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological research method was used. From January to March 2024, 13 intern nurses who had experienced patient death were selected from six三级甲等 hospitals in Zhejiang Province for one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi's seven-step method. Results: Six themes were identified, including the experience before the patient's death, psychological and emotional reactions upon encountering patient death, challenges faced during resuscitation, self-regulation methods after experiencing patient death, personal gains after the death event, and suggestions for school-based death education. Conclusion: Intern nurses face multiple challenges and negative emotions when experiencing patient death, but it also enhances their professional identity and improves their ability to cope with death. Future nursing educators should further explore and establish an integrated, continuous death education mechanism between schools and hospitals, achieving effective integration between institutional education and clinical training.
