Current situation and influencing factors of moral sensitivity of internship nursing students

Abstract：Objective: To understand the current status of moral sensitivity among intern nursing students and analyze its influencing factors, providing a reference for improving their moral sensitivity in clinical practice. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 663 nursing students interning at four三级甲等 hospitals in Fujian Province from June to August 2023 for a survey on moral sensitivity. The general information questionnaire, Moral Self-Concept Scale, and Nursing Students' Moral Sensitivity Scale were used for assessment. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to analyze the influencing factors of moral sensitivity among intern nursing students. Results: The total score of moral self-concept among nursing students was 88.00 (83.00, 92.00), and the total score of moral sensitivity was 50.00 (47.00, 55.00). There was a positive correlation between nursing students' moral sensitivity and moral self-concept. Education level, whether serving as class cadres, reasons for choosing the nursing profession, and whether they like communicating with patients/health education in clinical settings were influencing factors of moral strength (P < 0.05). Psychological activities when facing moral issues were influencing factors of moral burden (P < 0.05); parenting styles, and willingness to work in nursing in the future were influencing factors of moral responsibility (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The moral sensitivity of intern nursing students is at a moderate to high level. It is necessary to consider multiple aspects of intern nursing students to improve their moral sensitivity, providing a reference direction for clinical nursing education.
