Abstract:Objective: To explore the latent classes of fear of disease progression in patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy, and to analyze the differences in characteristics between different classes. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 309 inpatients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy from a tertiary hospital in Hefei City as the study subjects. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the simplified Fear of Cancer Progression Scale, the Chinese version of the Frailty Scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire for depression, and the MDASI-Lung module. Results: The fear of disease progression in patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy could be divided into three classes: 'Low-Level Fear Type', 'Physiological Health Fear Type', and 'Moderate-Level Fear Type', with proportions of 47.9%, 8.7%, and 43.4%, respectively. Regression analysis showed that patients with higher scores in the disease symptom cluster had a higher probability of belonging to the 'Moderate-Level Fear Type' compared to the 'Low-Level Fear Type' (OR=1.183, P=0.012). Patients with higher levels of depression had a higher probability of belonging to the 'Physiological Health Fear Type' and 'Moderate-Level Fear Type' (OR=1.401, P<0.001; OR=1.141, P<0.001). Conclusion: Fear of disease progression in patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy has distinct classification characteristics. Healthcare professionals can implement individualized interventions based on the characteristics and influencing factors of different classes to reduce patients' fear of disease progression.
