Abstract:Objective: To observe the effect of stress inoculation training on perceived stress, health-promoting behaviors, and adherence to home-based rehabilitation exercises in patients with stroke. Methods: A total of 162 patients in the recovery phase of stroke admitted to our hospital from May 2022 to February 2023 were selected and randomly divided into a conventional group and a stress inoculation group, with 81 cases in each group. The conventional group received routine follow-up care, while the stress inoculation group received stress inoculation training intervention on top of the conventional group's care for 7 weeks. The scores of negative emotions, Stroke Functional Exercise Adherence Scale (SFEAS), Simplified Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II), Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS), and Barthel Index were compared before and after the intervention between the two groups. Results: After the intervention, the scores of negative emotions and CPSS in both groups decreased compared to before the intervention, and the stress inoculation group had lower scores than the conventional group (P < 0.05). Both groups showed increased Barthel Index and FMA scores compared to before the intervention, and the stress inoculation group had higher scores than the conventional group (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores of all dimensions of SFEAS in both groups increased compared to before the intervention, and the stress inoculation group had higher scores than the conventional group (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores of all dimensions and total scores of HPLP II in both groups increased compared to before the intervention, and the stress inoculation group had higher scores than the conventional group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Stress inoculation training can reduce perceived stress and negative emotions in patients with stroke, promote health-promoting behaviors, and improve adherence to home-based rehabilitation exercises.
