Abstract:Objective: To explore the current status of pain catastrophization in patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN) and its influencing factors. Methods: A total of 323 PTN patients admitted to a tertiary hospital in Shanxi Province from January 2022 to December 2023 were investigated. The patients were assessed using a general information questionnaire, the Pain Catastrophization Scale (PCS), the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7), the Pain Resilience Scale (PRS), and the Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS). Univariate and multivariate analysis methods were used to evaluate the influencing factors of pain catastrophization in PTN patients. Results: The total score of PCS for PTN patients was (30.98±9.28). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the level of pain catastrophization was positively correlated with pain intensity and anxiety, and negatively correlated with psychological resilience and social support. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that age, pain intensity, anxiety, psychological resilience, and social support were independent influencing factors of pain catastrophization in PTN patients (P<0.05). Conclusion: The level of pain catastrophization in PTN patients is relatively high. Targeted measures should be taken in a timely manner based on age, pain intensity, anxiety, psychological resilience, and social support to reduce the degree of pain catastrophization to some extent.
