Abstract:Objective:To summarize the best evidence on oral care for tracheally intubated neonates and apply it to clinical practice. Methods:A total of 11 review indicators were developed in the evidence compilation phase, and 202 tracheally intubated infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)of a national children's regional medical center in Guangzhou City and 59 healthcare workers were reviewed.Assessment of healthcare workers'implementation of review indicators at 1,7,and 12 months in 2023.108 cases admitted from January-December 2022 were included as control group and 94 cases admitted from January-December 2023 were included as observation group. To compare the number of ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAP)occurrences, time of tracheal intubation, length of hospital stay, and number of unplanned extubation occurrences before and after evidence-based practice in two groups of children. Results:The implementation rate of the review indexes by healthcare workers was significantly improved after the evidence-based practice(P<0.001).The number of VAP occurrences in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),while the comparison of tracheal intubation time, hospitalization time, and the number of unplanned extubation occurrences showed no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).Conclusion:Evidence-based oral care for neonates with tracheal intubation can reduce the incidence of VAP in children and improve the implementation rate of the best evidence-based evidence by healthcare professionals.
