Summary of the best evidence for screening and assessment in elderly sarcopenia patients

Abstract:Objective:To summarize and evaluate the evidence-based evidence for screening and evaluation of elderly patients with sarcopenia in order to prospectively identify elderly patients with sarcopenia.Methods:Computerized search of relevant national and international databases for studies on screening and assessment of elderly patients with sarcopenia,including guidelines,expert consensus,clinical decision-making,evidence summaries,systematic evaluations,and Meta-analyses.The timeframe for the search was from database construction to September 15,2023.Results:A total of 18 articles were included,including 3 guidelines,8 expert consensus and 7 systematic evaluations.This resulted in 21 pieces of evidence in 5 categories,including case screening,muscle mass/quantity assessment,muscle strength assessment,muscle function measurements,and diagnosis of sarcopenia.Conclusion:This study provides a summary of the best evidence on screening and assessment of sarcopenia in older adults,which can help healthcare professionals in clinical practice to identify patients with sarcopenia early,quickly,and accurately for targeted interventions.
