Summary of the best evidence for oral health self-management in patients with periodontal disease

Abstract:Objective:To select and obtain relevant evidence on oral health care self-management of periodontal disease patients in China and abroad to provide a basis for clinical practice management.Methods:The evidence-based issues were identified according to the PIPOST model and retrieve in sequence according to"6S"from the NICE,UpToDate,the Cochrane Library,NGC,and Joanna Briggs Institute(JBI)Evidence-Based Health Care Central Database,CNKI,PubMed,EMbase,WanFang Database,and CBM.First,two researchers selected the corresponding evaluation tools according to the type of literature and conducted separate evaluations on the same document.Then,if there was a dispute,a third party would be invited to participate in the discussion.Finally,a consensus was formed,and evidence was extracted and synthesized.Results:A total of 9 articles were finally included,including 1 guideline,3 expert consensus articles,and 5 systematic reviews.A total of 22 pieces of evidence were summarized from eight aspects:multidisciplinary teamwork,periodontal symptom assessment,tooth brushing and interdental cleaning,tongue brushing,healthy lifestyle,risk factor management,regular follow-up visits,and self-monitoring.Conclusions:The summarized best evidence on oral health self-management for periodontal disease patients can provide an evidence-based basis for medical staff.It is recommended that clinical medical staff apply evidence according to clinical scenarios to improve nursing measures for oral health management.
