Evidence-based nursing practice for oral health management of stroke patients

Abstract:Objective:To apply the best evidence of oral health management in stroke patients to clinical practice and evaluate its clinical application effect.Methods:Following the clinical evidence practice application model of the Evidence Based Nursing Center of Joanna Briggs Institute(JBI)in Australia,the best evidence for oral health management of stroke patients was retrieved,evaluated and summarized.Eleven review indicators were developed,and obstacle factors were analyzed to construct implementation strategies.Using the convenient sampling method,80 patients and 16 nurses admitted to the Department of Cerebrovascular Diseases of a Class A Hospital in Zhengzhou City from April to June 2022 were selected as the study subjects.A baseline review was conducted for 40 patients and 16 nurses admitted from April 1 to April 30,2022.Education,training,and quality supervision were used to promote practical change.Applying clinical evidence from May 1 to May 31,2022.A further review was conducted for 40 patients and 16 nurses admitted from June 1 to June 30,2022.Compare patient oral health scores,oral health related quality of life scores,oral self care effectiveness scores,nurses mastery of oral health management knowledge,and the implementation rate of review indicators before and after the application of evidence.Results:Before and after the application of evidence,there were significant differences in patients'oral health status,oral health related quality of life,and oral self care efficacy(P<0.05).There was a statistically significant difference in nurses'oral health management knowledge and their implementation rate of review indicators before and after the application of evidence(P<0.05).Conclusion:Applying the best evidence based oral health management strategy for stroke patients to clinical practice can improve nurses'awareness and self-efficacy of oral health management for stroke patients,effectively standardize oral health management implementation measures,promote oral cavity health for stroke patients,and improve the quality of clinical oral health management.
