Surface anesthetic assisted catheterization of male patients:a systematic review
Abstract:Objective:To systematically review the effect of surface anesthetic used for male catheterization. Methods:Computer retrieved randomized controlled trials of male patients using surface anesthesia assisted catheterization Chinese biomedical literature(CBM),China journal full-text database(CNKI),and WanFan database. The quality of the literatures was strictly evaluated and the data were extracted by two researchers. The Meta-analysis was carried out to meet the quality standards.Results:17 RCT results and 1357 patients were included in the study.Meta-analysis showed that in respect of degree of pain during catheter placement [RR=0.22,95%CI(0.14,0.33),P<0.000 01],incidence of urethral injury hematuria [OR=0.13,95%CI(0.08,0.20),P<0.000 01],one-time success rate of intubation [OR=9.92,95%CI(6.45,15.27),P<0.000 01],male patients using surface anesthesia assisted catheterization were better than the control group. Conclusions:Surface anesthetic used for male patients catheterization could significantly improve patient comfort and reduce the incidence of urethral injury.
