Warming acu-moxibustion and moxibustion for primary dysmenorrhea:a systematic review
Abstract:Objective:To systematically review the efficacy of warming acupuncture in primary dysmenorrhea patients. Methods: The randomized controlled trials(RCTs)about warming acu-moxibustion in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea was search in PubMed,Web of Science,The Cochrane Library,CBM,CNKI,VIP,WanFang Data, from the date of their establishment to Dec 2015,and the relevant references of the included articles were also manually searched.Screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data and methodological quality of the included studies was assessed. Then Meta analyses were performed by using RevMan 5.3 software. Results:A total of 13 RCTs involving 1 040 patients were included. The results of Meta analyses showed that:①Total efficiency of warming acu-moxibustion therapy was better than that of regular medication control method, with statistically significant differences[RR=1.16,95%CI(1.11,1.22),P<0.000 01].②Warming acu-moxibustion therapy was better than control method in releasing degree of serious symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea, with statistically significant differences[SMD=-1.02,95%CI(-1.46,-0.97),P<0.000 01].Conclusions:Warming acu-moxibustion was more beneficial than regular medication for primary dysmenorrhea. It could significantly relieve pain in PD patients and overall efficiency.Due to limited quality and the limitations on the quantity of the included studied, the above mentioned conclusion still needed to be verified by conducting more large, high quality RCTs.
