Abstract:Objective:To systematically review the efficacy of ethanol versus heparin lock for the prevention of CRI in patients with long-term venous catheter indwelling. Methods:A systematic search of PubMed,EMbase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,Chinese Journal Full-Text database and Digital Journals Full-text Database was carried out.Randomized control trials(RCTs)examining the efficacy of ethanol versus heparin lock for the prevention of CRI were included.Methodological quality of included RCTs was assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions 5.1.0,and data were analyzed by the Stata software 12.0.Results:5 RCTs involving 266 patients were included. The Meta-analysis showed, that comparing with the heparin lock, ethanol lock could effectively prevent the CRBSI[OR=0.25,95%CI(0.12,0.52),P=0.000 3)],without increasing the risk of the thrombosis and adverse events(P>0.05).There were not statistically significant differences in exit-site infection and tunnel infection between both groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:The present data indicated that ethanol was a promising treatment for preventing the incidence of CRBSI in patients with long-term catheter indwelling, and did not increase the risk of thrombosis and adverse reactions.
