Abstract:A comparative study has done on the purification efficacy and characteristics of tw o parallel biological aerator filters (BAFs) from campus septic tank effluent .The experimental results indicated that both of the two parallel biological aerated filter (BAF) could remove nutriuents (N and P) from septic tank effluent effectively ,and the NH4+-N ,TN and TP removal rate of one biological aerator filter (BAF) with two hybrid carriers reached 89 .5% 、90 .5% 、93 .7% ,while the corresponding removal rate was only 78 .7% 、81 .8% 、84 .4% by using one biological aerator filter (BAF) with one carrier .The mechanisms in‐volved that :1)the more complex biological system was created by a complex surface pore structure on hy‐brid carriers ;2) filamentous bamboo could be decomposed during the experiment and some microorganisms were reduced to a certain degree .
