Abstract:Construction & demolition(C&D)wastes generated from the construction ,renovation ,repair and demolition of structures were widely recognized but seldom focused on their mercury contamination . This study was initiated to characterize and assess the mercury pollution in C&D waste samples ,which came from the chemical industry ,metallurgy ,light industry ,residential ,and recycled aggregates .The re-sults illustrated that the mercury concentrate range was 6 .46 -1542 .83 μg/kg in all samples and 164 .97μg/kg as average .The average mercury concentration of chemical industry was above STVHM-Level-Ⅰ(standard threshold values of heavy metals of environmental quality standard for soils in China )w hile oth-ers were below it .Chemical industrial samples defined as medium level pollution in the single factor evalua-tion endures a much more severe contamination than samples from other sources which were defined as non-polluted .
