The Significance and Limitations of Hu Shi's Fully Westernized Methodology

Abstract：In his life ,Hu Shi consciously promoted westernized methodologies ,especially the theory of evolution and experimentalism ,which has led to the modernized turn of Chinese academic research .Though with great historical meaning ,his method ,if considered in the world arena ,is without much innovation ,and is likely to destroy the internal ecological balance of the Chinese culture and undermine the modern value of traditional Chinese culture .To put it in Yan Fu's viewpoint ,Hu's method is just like fitting a horseshoe on an ox to make it unable to travel thousand miles a day and to plow .Though Hu also tried compromised method and focused on the Chinese culture ,his westernized tendency was still his dominant methodology .
