The Effect of Long Period Ground Motions on the Hydrodynamic Pressure and Dynamic Response of Rectangular Piers
Abstract:Attenuation relationships and spectrum characteristic are significant difference between long-period ground motions and ordinary-period ground motions, and because of the lack of reliable records of long-period ground motions, the research at home and abroad is not enough, however the research of the effect of long-period ground motions to hydrodynamic pressure and dynamic response of rectangular piers is less than that of ordinary-period ground motions. Thus, the spectral character of long-period ground motions and ordinary-period ground motions in this paper are studied, along with studies of a time-history analysis based on potential fluid theory on a typical entity rectangular pier and the effect of long-period ground motions to hydrodynamic pressure of the rectangular, with the result showing that the hydrodynamic pressure has different tendency along the pier. The maximum shearing force and bending moment at the bottom of the pier and the maximum acceleration and displacement on the top of the pier in different water depths are also studied, and the greatest effect rate of long-period ground motions are 59.6%,57.2%,37.5% and 76.6% in 20 m deep water.
